Happy New Year!

Dear Parents and Students,

It has been awhile, but we are starting to get back to our blog. Our website is also in the process of being updated. Note that the calendar is already updated. We will be updating the rest of the page as soon as we can.

The most important upcoming event is All-West auditions. The Mt. Pisgah band has 32 students traveling to University School of Jackson to audition. Audition times were given to the students in class today. A detailed letter will go home tomorrow, with directions for students and parents. Good luck to all students auditioning!

Rehearsals for the Honor Band and Jazz Band will resume this Thursday. The Beginning Band will start after school rehearsals later this semester. A letter will be sent home in advance of the 6th grade resuming after school rehearsals.

We look forward to a great semester! Please check back often for further updates!

Band Parents, 5/4/09

This note is to remind you about the Mt. Pisgah Band attendance policy, which is listed below. Students must attend the Spring Concert to be eligible for the field trip (6th grade) and Band Awards Banquet.

Spring Banquet/Field Trip Eligibility
The Spring Band Banquet is intended to reward those students who have worked hard and attended after school rehearsals throughout the year. The 6th grade field trip is an additional reward designed for beginning band students who have attended after-school band throughout the year. In order for students to be eligible for the banquet (and field trip), they must meet all performance and attendance obligations.

Thank you,

David Wood

Honor Band Auditions

TO: Parents of 7th and 8th Band Students

FROM: Dr. Wood & Ms. Spain

RE: Selection of Honor Band
________________________________________________________________________

February 1st we will audition all students and select the more advanced performing students to form this year’s Honor Band. This group will represent Mt. Pisgah at the Regional Concert Festival, at Ridgeway Middle School, on March 11th.

After February 1st, this select Honor Band group will begin serious preparation for Concert Festival. This preparation will include meeting twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons until Concert Festival. If your student will have a problem attending these extra rehearsals, please email me and let me know. (dwood@scsk12.org)

We are writing this note to encourage your student to practice, so that they might join this select group. The Honor Band will consist of no more than the top 50 band students in 7th and 8th grade. Those who are not selected will not have after school rehearsal from February 6, until after Spring Break.

Those students who have a failing band grade, will not be allowed to participate in Honor Band regardless of how well they perform. Please encourage your student to turn in his/her weekly practice sheets. Failure to turn in practice sheets will cause you student to failing band grade.

Parents please sign and return the form below:

(Please return to Black Box)

I have read and understand your message.

Volunteers Needed for Winter Concert. Please e-mail or contact Rory Mitchner at 901 292 2556 or rory.mitchner@gmail.com

Setup Help

We need one booster member to help with the set up of the stage prior to the concert from 2pm-4pm. They will meet with Dr. Wood in the back of the GPAC auditorium.
6th Grade Chaperone Help
We need ten 6th grade parents at 6:30pm. We need them there when the doors open at 6:30pm at the GPAC Center.
1 parent will direct the students to the back.
9 parents will chaperone the students while Dr Wood set up the Jazz Band in front of the curtains, tune up and repair the instruments. The parents will make sure that the students are dressed and orderly and ready to go.
After the 6th graders are finish playing, the parents will escort their group to the front 3 reserved rows. We ask that each chaperone sit with every 8 to 10 students, so that the students will not talk during the band concert. The recording equipment is very sensitive and will be in front of the stage near the students. It will pick up on the talking from the kids.
After Concert Help
We need 8 Dads to help load the band equipment onto the truck and 8 dads to unload the truck at the school. If you want to take pictures with your family, you can take your picture first and then come and help in the back.

Decorations!!!!!!
If you would like to purchase a poinsettias flower for the band stage please e-mail or call me. The cost will be $10. The flowers add a festive touch to the concert. After the performance, please come to the stage to pick up your flower from Lyn Grayson. She will make sure that you receive your flower.
